Home Maintenance Checklist - April 2016

April showers bring May flowers – but don’t let those showers also bring unwanted water damage to your home! Our April Home Maintenance Checklist is here and this month we’re focused on preventing any damage to your home by inspecting the basement or crawl spaces for cracks or moisture. Catching any cracks or moisture early will save you time and money, so take a few moments this month to do a preventative examination. Have your home in tip-top shape for spring by going through our entire April Home Maintenance Checklist:

  • Clean or replace furnace filter, HRV or humidifier filter (if applicable)
  • Check eavestrough and downspouts are clean and free of leaves and debris and downspout is lowered. If you live within a condominium, please notify your property manager regarding any build up.
  • Check roof for missing or lifted shingles. If you live within a condominium, please notify your property manager regarding any missing or lifted shingles.
  • Clean range hood filter.
  • Inspect drainage and landscaping for soil settlement. If you live within a condominium, please notify your property manager regarding any settlement.
  • Check window wells if applicable, make sure they are clean and free of debris.
  • Install sump hose where applicable (remove when at risk of freezing, typically October).
  • Check sump pump to ensure that it is operating properly.
  • Inspect drainage and landscaping for soil settlement. If you live within a condominium, please notify your property manager regarding any settlement.
  • Check window wells if applicable, make sure they are clean and free of debris.
  • Install sump hose where applicable (remove when at risk of freezing, typically October).
  • Check sump pump to ensure that it is operating properly.
