The 20th Annual Spring Breakout Barbecue in support of the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society was held on May 7th, 2016. This event, put on by the Daytona Group of Companies, totalled over $61,000 raised for EDSS!
As one of Daytona’s largest fundraisers, this event involves the participation from Daytona employees, trades and business associates. The 2016 Spring BBQ was hosted at Fort Edmonton Park, where over 400 guests were provided with a steak dinner and an evening filled with entertainment, including the much anticipated silent and live auction.
The event’s main objectives are to raise awareness and, most importantly, critical funds for the EDSS. As a significant contributor to the growth of EDSS over the last 20 years, the funds raised from the 2016 Spring BBQ will help the EDSS continue to support individuals with Down syndrome as well as their families. Contributions will be directed towards the many outstanding programs the organization provides, including occupational and speech therapy programming, sharing resources, and above all connecting members with one another.
The event’s close timing to the wild fires effecting Fort McMurray also lead to an impromptu fundraising effort by Ralph Hutchinson, where guests were able to make donations to the Canadian Red Cross. Event attendees raised over $1,500 in just minutes for the Alberta Fires Appeal.
